Sikandar Raza is a professional cricketer who represents Zimbabwe in international cricket. He is an all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off break. Raza made his debut for Zimbabwe in 2013 and has played in all three formats of the game. Sikandar Raza Life journey

Raza was born in Pakistan, but in 2002, he moved to Zimbabwe with his parents. He started playing First-Class cricket as a semi-professional, and only after he finished his higher education did he choose cricket as a career.

Because of how well he played at home, he was put on the preliminary 30-person squad for the 2011 World Cup. However, he did not make it to the final 15-person squad. But he kept putting out good work, and his explosive style in shorter formats got people’s attention.

He arrived in Zimbabwe. a trial, but couldn’t because of problems with his citizenship. He answered Matabeleland Tuskers with a 93 off 48 balls. The problems with citizenship were eventually solved.

He couldn’t play his first ODI until 2013. On his first Test against Pakistan, he got 60 and 24 runs, but the Chittagong Test of 2014 was definitely his best. He scored 82 and 65 runs and took 4 wickets with his off-breaks.

In 2014, he also made 141 runs in an ODI against Afghanistan. He only played a few games in the 2015 World Cup, but he made up for it soon after with a brilliant 100 not out in 84 balls against Pakistan.

Sikandar was born in Sialkot, which is in the northeast of Pakistan. He wanted to be a fighter pilot from a young age and got into Air Force college to do so. But because he failed an eye test in his third year, he had to quit. While he was getting his bachelor’s degree at Glasgow Caledonian University, he became a semi-professional cricket player after realising what he was really good at.

Raza moved to Zimbabwe, where his parents had been living since 2002. In 2007, he played in his first first-class match. He got one fifty in nine innings before he finished school and went back to playing cricket full-time in the 2010-11 season. Sikandar did better, getting 625 runs at an average of 41 per game. He kept getting better as an all-around player in the domestic circuit.

Sikandar Raza made his first international appearance for Zimbabwe in all formats in 2013. The next year, Raza and Hamilton Masakadza had the highest opening stand for Zimbabwe in ODIs, which was worth 224 runs. Since then, he has consistently done great on the field, which has helped him keep his spot on the team.

With 7 for 113 against Sri Lanka in January 2020, Raza broke the record for the second-best bowling figures in an innings by a Zimbabwean bowler in Test cricket. He also played his 100th ODI match that same year. Sikandar Raza still goes after the blade with everything he has. In an ODI series against Bangladesh in 2022, he hit centuries in the first two of the three games. Both of them helped his team win.
